Meta Commits $600B Over Three Years to Strengthen US Innovation
As part of its quest for artificial intelligence, Meta Platforms Inc. announced to invest $600 billion in the United States.
The business intends to use the funds over a three-year period. In addition to supporting infrastructure like electricity transmission lines and labor growth, it will invest in new AI data center.
The $600 billion idea was first proposed by Meta CEO. Since two of Meta’s flagship AI projects were only completed in the last three weeks, the organization may have postponed its official disclosure of the strategy. The Facebook parent company will increase its data center capacity by roughly three gigawatts because of those expenditures.
The $27 billion joint venture arrangement with the investment firm Blue Owl is the bigger of the two agreements. As per the deal, Blue Owl will assist Meta in funding the building of its flagship Hyperion data center complex located in Richland Parish, Louisiana. The deal is expected to provide $7 billion in funding to the Facebook parent.
Nine structures totaling over four million square feet of floor space are anticipated to be part of the Hyperion project. Two gigawatts of computer power will be housed in those structures, according to Meta. It is anticipated that Hyperion would be completely functional by 2030.
To construct new power generation infrastructure for the campus, Meta has teamed up with the publicly traded utility Entergy Corp. In Louisiana, Entergy plans to build a $3.2 billion natural gas power plant as well as auxiliary equipment such as power transmission lines. It is anticipated that the plant will produce 1.5 gigawatts of electricity, or around three-quarters of what Hyperion would need.
Meta revealed intentions to construct a second AI data center campus in El Paso around the time it signed the joint venture deal with Blue Owl. It is anticipated that the location will offer up to one gigawatt of processing power. Like Hyperion, Meta is constructing new power transmission infrastructure to support its AI workloads on campus.
Custom silicon may be used by the corporation to outfit the future data center facilities. According to reports, Meta purchased Rivos Inc., a firm developing an AI inference processor, in September.
